The wait is almost over, and the anticipation is palpable – Aberdeen winter festival fun is about to take the city by storm, promising a magical mix of musical mash-ups!
This is no run-of-the-mill gathering. We are talking edge-of-the-seat entertainment. This fine university city will be taken over by Soundfestival Aberdeen, an explosion of new music that challenges the norm, while crossing the boundaries of a range of genres; from contemporary classical to jazz, from electro-acoustic to improvised.
It is no exaggeration to say there is something to cater to every festival goer’s tastes. Whether you are in the mood for a lunchtime performance, a late-night sound session or something in between, you are sure to experience it in an atmospheric backdrop at one of Aberdeen’s many iconic venues, including Jazz at The Blue Lamp, Aberdeen Maritime Museum, and St Andrew’s Cathedral.
Promenade concerts, traditional gigs, workshops and talks are also on the agenda for what is shaping up to be a memorable 17 days. The action gets started on October 26th, and runs until November 11th, so there is plenty of time for you to treat your ears.
This annual meeting of innovative acts who are not afraid to produce something out of the ordinary is dripping with flair, creativity, and most importantly of all, an unflinching belief in the music they are playing, however ‘different’ it may sound.
Based at the Barn in Banchory arts centre, the Soundfestival team commission and produce new music, supporting acts from Scotland and further afield. This is made possible courtesy of around 30 local partners who collaborate with the festival organisers to deliver enthralling new work both at the event and throughout the year.
Relationships forged overseas with ensembles as far away as Australia, Canada, France, Belgium and Germany have also led to a number of innovative joint projects.
