10 Office Desk Essentials To Boost Productivity

Are you struggling at work to keep your productivity levels high throughout the day? If so, you’re not alone.

It’s important to notice when you’re feeling a lack of motivation and make sure you do something about it.

There are a number of different factors which can cause low productivity, including workplace stress, lack of recognition or uncomfortable office space.

One of the factors which you can change yourself is your office space, especially your desk.

When it comes to your desk area, there are simple office desk essentials you can buy which will help you to boost your productivity levels.

If you’re in desperate need of switching up your space, keep reading to find out the accessories you need ASAP…

1. Planner

office desk essentials you need

A planner (also known as a diary) is a simple, but extremely effective stationary item which will completely organise your working life.

We understand that sometimes there’s so much going on in work that your days can be quite hectic.

From team meetings to important deadlines you have to hit, having a planner will organise everything and make sure you’re on time for the things you might forget.

Not only will this mean your bosses are happy with your performance, but it will positively affect your mental wellbeing and improve your work-life balance.

We suggest getting a planner fresh for the new year, which can sit on your desk and isn’t too big to go in your bag.

2. Fan

The last thing you want is to be feeling hot and sticky at work on a summer’s day!

You’ll lose all concentration levels and in turn, negatively affect your attitude towards work.

Having your own personal fan on your desk can allow you to adjust the temperature to suit your needs, and not affect those around you.

Of course, fresh air from a window is always a winner, but your hot and someone else’s hot might be on two completely different scales.

So, we suggest a small, portable fan on your desk which can be either plugged into one USB port or plug!

3. Sticky Notes/Post it notes

Sticky notes are a simple stationary item, but they can help SO much when it comes to organising your day.

For example, you could choose to refresh your post it notes in the morning and write your to do list for the day.

This will ensure you stay on track of all the activities you have to complete, and once you’re done, you can just pop it right in the bin! How easy is that?

What makes them even better is that they cost literally pennies. So you won’t be breaking the bank if you decide to purchase some.

4. Headphones

Concentration is key for high productivity levels and that’s why having a pair of headphones is one of the best office desk essentials.

Firstly, you’ll be able to answer your video conferences in the office without everyone else listening in. Giving you the privacy you need, and keeping your co-workers happy.

Secondly, sometimes if there’s a lot of hustle and bustle around the office, you might just want to stick some headphones in and get cracking with your work.

This is not unusual and most offices will allow you to do so, but make sure you check first before bopping away to your favourite tune.

There’s so many different styles of headphones, but our faves have to be the noise cancelling headphones. This will block out anything from around you and help you to stay focused.

5. Wireless Phone Charger

This only matters for those who have phones that can accept a wireless charger, but these sorts of phone chargers are honestly a game changer.

Desk clutter can be a huge distraction when it comes to your productivity. It’s highly important that you maintain an organised desk to keep your productivity high.

Phone chargers themselves add to all the cables you already have, which is something you don’t need.

That’s why having a wireless charger is so good. Yes, it won’t necessarily affect your work, but it will improve your workplace design and help contribute to a clean environment.

6. Stress Ball

For when times get tough and ‘stressful’, you have to invest in a stress ball!

All the rage you’re feeling inside, you can take it all out on this little thing.

Again, they’re on the cheaper side of desk accessories, but we promise they’re super effective!

It doesn’t have to be anything big, it can just live in your work desk till you need it most.

7. Plant (Fake or Real)

Having a plant on your workspace can completely transform your personal space and make it more tranquil.

This is one of those office desk essentials that might not have a massive impact on your working ability, but it will calm you down and create a peaceful environment you’ll want to work in.

Of course we had to mention, don’t worry about whether it’s fake or real. We know how difficult it can be to manage a real plant!

So, next time you pop into your local Dunelm or Ikea, why not pick up a cheap pot – it’ll sure brighten your days working!

8. Desk Lamp

Prioritising natural light is better for your eyesight, however sometimes this is something that can’t be helped.

That’s why we suggest you invest in your own desk lamp!

The smaller the better, but it’s best to make sure that it doesn’t emit bad lighting.

9. Healthy Snacks

Healthy snacks, in particular, are the best way to ensure you’re snacking to benefit your performance levels.

Food is the best fuel, and there’s so many healthy snacks out there for you to choose from…so why not search for some on the market?

We suggest something like nuts, protein bowls, dried fruit or even popcorn!
